Zouratié Koné will hold two workshops in collaboration with the Royale Académie Internationale d’Été de Wallonie, Belgium

Amu Les Griots coordinates the workshops Rhythms and instruments of West Africa and Afro Jazz Mandingo, that Zouratié Koné will hold in collaboration with the Royale Académie Internationale d’Été de Wallonie.

Rhythms and instruments of West Africa
Let yourself be immersed in the rhythms of West Africa with the Griot Zouratié Koné!
The Burkinabè Zouratié Koné is a master percussionist from a family of Griots (traditional healer-artists) who master several instruments of West African tradition (djembé, tama, longa, ngoni, kora, balafon).
From an oral tradition, this outstanding musician knows hundreds of different rhythms from Burkina Faso, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Niger, Mali, Guinea, etc. as well as many songs.
Each rhythm of the African tradition is an open window for the knowledge of the African culture in a broader sense, when it is deeply linked to the fundamental moments of the organization of the society: baptism, marriage, celebrations, rituals of foundation of a village, accompanying the cycle of seasons in agriculture, etc.
During the workshop you will have the opportunity to understand and use different traditional African rhythms and harmonies that you can reproduce on your usual instruments, as well as learn to play traditional instruments (you will have djembe, tama, longa, ngoni, kora, balafon).

Afro Jazz Mandingo
A week with the Burkinabé Griot Zouratié Koné and his group ZKE! Zouratié Koné Ensemble, to discover, learn and adapt certain rhythms from West Africa to the various instruments of the Western tradition, in the sign of Afro Jazz Mandingo.
The composition work that the Burkinabé Zouratié Koné performs for the group’s projects is based on the use of traditional African rhythms and harmonies as a guide for artistic expression for all the instruments that accompany it (traditional instruments , winds, bass guitar, drums and percussion).
The result is free music, full of communicative and joyful energy, both insolent and respectful of tradition.
